Weather watch: Heavy rain alert in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca

A HEAVY rain alert is now in force for Yasawa and the Mamanuca Group.
The Fiji Meteorological Centre has also revealed that a heavy rain warning remains in force for the Eastern and Southern half of Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti Group, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands.
The weather forecasting centre in Nadi states a trough of low pressure remains slow moving over the group with associated cloud and rain affecting the northern and eastern parts of the country.
Fiji Met has also stated that another trough of low pressure is expected to approach the group from the Northwest from later tonight.
For the Eastern and Southern half of Viti Levu (from Rakiraki, Tailevu, Nausori, Suva, Navua to Korolevu, including the interior), Lau and Lomaiviti group, expect occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms, rain becoming frequent and heavy.
For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.
For Yasawa and Mamanuca group, occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with showers increasing to rain, becoming frequent and heavy from tomorrow.
The centre has also advised that heavy falls may lead to flooding of low-lying areas.
