THE crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Munro carried out a beach cleanup at Tikaram Park in Lami this morning.

With the support of volunteers and staff from the Lami Town Council, the clean-up was conducted from 9am-11am.

Munro crew, Second Class Petty Officer Travis Wiiliadson, said the clean-up was a positive idea from the US Coast Guard and it looked to build relationships with the community they visited.

“The clean-up is a good initiative as the environment plays an important role,” he said.

“We are out here today, looking forward to collect rubbish, plastics and other garbage that has polluted the beach,”

About 100 bags of rubbish were collected.
