UNITED KINGDOM-BASED players Ellie Nawele and Dee Bolakoro have joined the Fiji Pearls team training camp in Brisbane in preparations for the Netball World Cup.

Coach Vicki Wilson said the two players arrived in camp with great fitness having competed in the Vitality Super League competition in England.

“Fifteen players assembled in Brisbane Monday June 3 for a three-week camp which will finish on Friday June 21,” she said.

“Our focus in on the daily training environment – skills, court specific systems, cross training, weights and match play.

“The entire squad are working hard and adjusting to our demanding schedule of two sessions per day.

“Our biggest challenge is to increase our speed in our execution of skills plus our movement.”

Wilson said this week they were playing six practice games each night replicating their World Cup draw of six consecutive games.

“In camp we are monitoring the girls attention to detail – daily eating habits (making good decisions on healthy food choices), their recovery and the attitude and effort during training plus taking their learning’s from training and improving with each practice game that we play.

“We will depart for New Zealand on Saturday June 22 for four games against the Silver Ferns, NZ Men’s and the ANZ All Stars.

“When we play against the Silver Ferns, our aim is not to get overawed as the Ferns are ranked number four in the world and we are ranked number 14,” the former Australia netball coach said.

“However it is a huge opportunity to play against one of the world’s best teams and learn from the experience.”
