Queen Victoria School created history yesterday by winning all the Fiji secondary schools rugby league grade finals at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

The boys from Vulinituraga scooped the under-15 title beating Nasinu Panthers 28-6. In the U17 grade, they beat Marist Brothers High school 20-18 and scooped the top title of the competition, the U19 grade after beating Ba Provinicial Free Bird Institute 28-14.

QVS principal Ratu Josefa Gavidi said the year-long COVID-19 pandemic break refreshed the students in their studies and sports.

“We gained this success after going through an amount of struggle in balancing studies and training,” he said.

“We are grateful to the Fiji National Rugby League development officers who came to assist us in our development phase. The key element for the teams this year was the discipline on and off-the-fieldy.”

U19 captain Silivenusi Toka said they dedicated their win to all the Year 13 students who would leave school at the end of the year.

“It was a must for us to win this game and the boys really delivered it well,” he said. “We hope that we have set the standard for our younger brothers to keep the momentum going.”
