PARLIAMENT yesterday heard that to get the structural plan of the newly built Navua Hospital, one had to contact the contractor in China. Opposition member of Parliament Ratu Suliano Matanitobua told Parliament that during a stakeholders’ meeting between Ministry of Health officials and villagers of Lobau, Naveivatuloa and Namelimeli communities in Namosi — over the issue of sewage filtered water spillage from the new Navua Hospital — he had raised the issue about the design of the hospital, this included the engineering certificate and structural plan for the hospital.

“I had asked the officials about the plans and they told me they had to email to China to get the plan. My concern is if the plan for the hospital is with the ministry or the PM’s office,” Ratu Suliano asked.

Health and Medical Services Minister Rosy Akbar in responding to the supplementary question said the design of the hospital was also brought to her attention after the stakeholders’ meeting.

“The Ministry of Health is working with the Prime Minister’s Office so we can have access to that. I cannot confirm where it is at the moment, but definitely when we meet on the 24th (May) we will have answers to your questions.”
