Police officers around Fiji have been directed to wear face masks from tomorrow because of the continuous reports of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said it was his duty of care to members of the force to have this enforced.

“Our work requires constant interaction with the public and lessons learnt from the first and second waves have made me take this proactive measure,” he said.

“We had a very high infection rate of more than 25 per cent previously.”

The Health Ministry said on Thursday it had noted an increase in reports from workplaces.

The ministry has strongly advised that COVID safe measures be more actively promoted and enforced by management in work places.
