THE Nadroga Super Rugby Championship “Waqe ni Sikina” 2020 is set to kick off this Saturday December 14 at Lawaqa Park-Sigatoka.
There was a review of the format after two years of the championship, in 2018 and again this year 2019.
We have now decided to commence early for 2020 and to have a round robin games with each team playing a total of 13 round robin games before the play-offs.
Secondly we have merged two competitions namely Na Kalevu Shield and Super Rugby Trophy in one championship where we use the first six rounds to determine the top eight teams that will play double header for the Kalevu Shield.
The holder at present is Vusu Brumbies who took it from Conua Chiefs early this year and defended it for seven successful defences until close of season.
All fourteen (14) franchise teams will be fighting tooth and nail for the top eight spots in the first six rounds which run through the festive season of Christmas and New Year.
Winner for 2019 Super Rugby Trophy was Raviravi Sunwolves who are also confident of defending their title for 2019-2020 season.
They have set their plans and targets of becoming the undisputed and unified champion of Nadroga rugby.
On another note Vusu Brumbies who holds the Kalevu Shield is also setting their plans on the same, however we cannot rule out the other twelve (12) franchise teams from achieving the same.
There is a lot at stake for the fourteen teams in the senior grade.
As for the U20s Grade, Cuvu Blues, the winners for U20 Trophy is also confident of defending their title for yet another gruelling season of champagne rugby.
All teams therefore cannot waste time as they gear themselves up for their first round matches this Saturday, December 14 at Lawaqa Park.
We have closed our sevens season with our Nadroga Sevens and now launch the commencement of our XVs season with our “Waqe ni Sikina”
