A 28-year-old former sales executive of Fiji Television Ltd pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining financial advantage and causing a loss at the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Jone Silaira appeared before magistrate Seini Puamau charged with 16 counts of obtaining a financial advantage and one count of causing a loss of $11,996.17 between 2019 and 2020 to the company.

The matter was brought to light after the manager engineering and Pactok at Fiji TV received complaints from customers that they had not been provided services as promised — and upon checking it was found that the payments had been received by the accused.

The accused took the money with the promise to provide solar systems for installation and taxi repeaters.

An audit was carried out, and the accused was investigated and charged.

The court was also told that the accused had used the payments to purchase food and clothing and police had only recovered $1500 worth of clothes from him.

Mr Silaira asked for forgiveness from the court.

He was released on bail and the matter adjourned to Friday for sentencing.
