COVID-19: Appreciate and pledge to protect your family – PM

As Fijians gather with their families this long Easter weekend, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has called on everyone to take a moment to appreciate them.
He wanted every Fijian to spend a moment to show their families how they appreciate to have them in their lives, and how much people sometimes take that for granted.
“Pledge to protect them by changing your own behaviour in the days, weeks, and months ahead,” Mr Bainimarama said this afternoon in his national COVID-19 address.
“Ask yourself: If I could prevent my grandparent from suffering a stroke by washing my hands, would I?
“If I could prevent my child from contracting cancer by staying home, would I?
“If I could stave off heart disease in my spouse by physically distancing, would I?
“The answer is obvious. Treat coronavirus no differently – it is just as serious as any other killer, but unlike some other diseases, the power to fight it is in your own hands.”
Fiji now has 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the latest a nine-year-old girl of Soasoa in Labasa – the granddaughter of the old man who had travelled to India.
