NATIVE Lands Commission chairman Ratu Vananalagi Vesikula has challenged the vanua of Cakaudrove to have a positive attitude towards the environment.

In opening the Cakaudrove Provincial Council meeting in Somosomo Village on Taveuni yesterday, Ratu Vananalagi said the basic practice of not using plastic bags should be adopted in villages and at homes.

He said Fiji had championed climate change issues and despite the handing over to Poland, communities should remain committed to saving the environment.

Regarding the iTaukei culture, Ratu Vananalagi pleaded with traditional leaders to enforce with their children the dialect and cultural traditions of the iTaukei community.

Ratu Vananalagi said it was important to preserve the various dialects and iTaukei tradition. This, he said, should be done to ensure that the younger generation stay connected to their culture.
