International monetary agencies are willing to lend us money because we have the capacity to manage our economy well, says Attorney-General and Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He made the comment in his right of reply to the 2020-2021 Appropriation Bill in Parliament yesterday.

The A-G claimed Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka and National Federation Party leader Prof Biman Prasad were trying to undermine how the economy had been managed but international financial institutions had faith in the FijiFirst Government.

“Honourable Prasad has tried to spin the numbers, Honourable Rabuka has tried to again spin the numbers, pick and choose as he likes, tried to undermine institutions,” claimed Mr Sayed-Khaiyum.

“And here we are we have international monetary agencies believing in our economic growth, believing in our economic strength and economic management of our finances and are willing to give us loans, as we highlighted, at concessionary rates at zero per cent, at 1.5 per cent.

“If they did not believe we had the capacity, they would not have done so.”
