A TOTAL of 7000 plants mangroves planted were planted by Fiji Airways staff as part of their pledge to plant a tree for every take off each year.

For this year’s program, airline staff members replanted mangroves at Lautoka’s Saweni Beach.

Fiji Airways managing director and CEO Andre Viljoen said he was extremely proud of their staff’s commitment to the worthy cause. “As an airline, we are well aware of the carbon footprint of our business and our industry,” he said.

“We continue to take various measures to minimise waste and reduce our carbon footprint.

“Our narrow-body fleet upgrade, through the replacement of our Boeing 737NG with the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, will reduce our CO2 emissions by 14 per cent per aircraft.

“And building on to that, the tree-planting by our staff will not only help offset carbon emissions but also protect Fiji’s vital coastlines.”
