THE Fiji Performing Rights Association’s (FPRA) preparations towards their annual music awards in May is well in progress.

FPRA board members yesterday received a timely gift of $5000 cheque from Vatuvara Private Islands in Suva.

FPRA board member Laisa Vulakoro said the island resort was sponsoring the “Best English Song” category for this year’s awards night.

“I want to thank them for their continuous support,” said Ms Vulakoro.

“This is the fifth consecutive year they are providing sponsorship for the category. “They have really helped FPRA over the years and are committed to develop the music industry in the country.”

She also added that the full categories and nominees for this year’s awards night would be launched next week in Lautoka.

Vatuvara Private Islands’ senior accounts officer Shajeel Sharma said the staff members and the management of the resort were supportive of the music industry.

“Being part of the tourism industry, one important element to attract tourists is good local music and we believe with our support we can help achieve this,” Mr Sharma said.

The FPRA annual awards night will be held on May 11 at the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH).
