THE Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) has received 15 applications for the position of Fiji Bati head coach, said FNRL chairman Peni Musunamasi.
“Four possible candidates have been shortlisted,” Musunamasi said.
Musunamasi said the final four applicants were all overseas-based professional coaches.
“We will be informing the final candidates this week before the interview next month that will be held on January 10 in Australia.”
Meanwhile, Musunamasi said the FNRL had not ruled out the option of Jarryd Hayne returning to play for the Fiji Bati.
Hayne is currently on bail in Australia after being charged with aggravated sexual assault.
“Before he came to FNRL in 2008, he had gone through some bad publicity, which all of us had gone through during our youths.
“We, as FNRL, can only do so much in developing and supporting a person in whatever way we can, yet the last decisions still remain with him.
“He still has the opportunity to play for Fiji Bati as well as other sports he wishes to play and hope for him that whatever happens will not spoil his future and his family.
“The FNRL wishes him the best and will pray for him.”
